While this is a very good piece of research, there are some items that are not exactly correct and I am attempting to clarify them at this time:
1) William Secrest was not born in VA; he was born in Switzerland. I have been there and found a Census-type record which listed: Valentine Siegrist b. 1735; Susanna Siegrist b. 1739 and William Siegrist b. 1755. This was apparently taken in 1760 as Mary is not listed and she was born in 1761.
2) Mary Beeson was the only wife of William Secrest. Her father and uncle were landowners and laid out the town that is now Uniontown, the county seat for Fayette Co, PA. It was originally Beesontown.
3) Anna Ingram is actually Ann Moore Ingraham, the widow of John Ingraham and the second wife of William's oldest son, Joseph Cross Secrest. Ann had two Ingraham children and her daughter, Catherine, married Joseph's son, Wm B. Secrest and they were the parents of 23 children including 5 sets of twins.
4) William's children: Joseph, Elizabeth, Lydia Anne; Wm. Jr. and Catherine were all born in present-day Fayette Co, PA. Prior to June 1780 it was part of Augusta Co, VA. Since Joseph was born in April 1780, he technically was born in VA. From 1780 to 1783 that area was part of Westmoreland Co, PA and in 1783 it became Fayette Co, PA.
The family relocated to Fleming Co, KY ca. 1792 and it is assumed that all children born before that time were born in VA. This confusion came about when Joseph's obit was found and it stated he was born in VA. William and family are listed in the 1790 US Census for Fayette Co, PA.
I grew up in Fayette Co, PA and have been researching this Siegrist/Secrest/Sechrist Family since July 1977. I have been to the farm built by Valentine in 1779 and his son, John, b. 1765 later bought a section of that land and built his home. John's descendants occupied that farm until 1965 when it was used for payment of the funeral of the last descendant to live there. Many of the famiy papers are still in the possession of John's decendants who shared them with me. I am descended from David Sechrist b. Dec 1780 so it was Westmoreland Co. when he was born. He is the fifth son of Valentine and Susanna Siegrist.
