I began researching this family in July 1977 and have corresponded with members of your branch. I have "met" a lot of our mutual relatives thru my research these last 33 years, but no one can give me the source for this Gladly name. The person who sent it to me has not responded to my request for the source.

I even went to Switzerland back in Oct. 1999 but the only clue I found there was a census taken in 1760 that had Valentine born 1735; Susannah born 1739 and William born 1755. This proves they were there in Basil, but could find no marriage or birth records to provide her maiden name. Their 2nd child, Mary (Anna Maria), was born in 1761 which also fits the 1760 record--she's not on it because she wasn't born yet.

I am descended from Valentine's 6th son, David, thru his daughter, Anna Margaret (who married Nicholas Shirey) and on down to my mother, Erma Grace Nichelson, born in Fayette County, PA. I was born in Westmoreland Co, just across the creek from Fayette Co. where Valentine finally settled and had his large farm.
