Secrest Family Genealogy Forum

I was going to publish a Secrest/Sechrist Family History, and I had thousands of names, dates, etc. in my first computer back in the early 1990's. I was not on line and only used this computer for compiling my Secrest Family Tree. That one was the old DOS format and when I got a new Windows computer for Christmas 1998, and my SIL who is a computer geru (works computers for a large corporation), he tried to transfer my info from the old 5" disks to the new (at the time) 3" disks but only about a third of the info would transfer. He kept getting negative responses as to why the other info could not be saved and so I lost years of putting the info into the computer. I still have all the records in boxes and binders and letters, etc, but it takes a long time to go thru it and get it all organized and I just haven't had the time to start all over. I just keep adding anything new I find. Don't know of anyone else who is planning to do any such thing either. After 32 years and contributions from many long-lost cousins, I did publish a Freed Family History last year. In 2007 I published a history of my father's Polish Family which was not as involved--they only came to America in the 1880's. I need to catch up on some home redecorating and other things I've neglected these last few years in order to complete these genealogy projects before I pass away and the children toss out all my files. They at least know what to do with the publish books, but wouldn't know where to start with all those files. Maybe someday...if I live long enough....
