Tela Seigler was a school marm/teacher for Albany Ga. area rural school children. She would have come in to the MCRae, Milan, and Albany area of Ga. and taught school in a church or make shift school house. The specific time I am speaking about would have been between 1895 and 1905 the exact year I am not sure of. I do have one piece of information that is good and want to see if relatives can cooberate the story. I am told Tela stayed with Manning Powell and his wife Annie Parker Powell. He made advances and she left in the middle of the night in a horse drawn carriage after staying some amount of time teaching during the day and I guess dodging the advances of Mr. Manning Powell at night. I want to know if she was pregnant when she left and if there was in fact a child. I have a good reliable source in my family who remembers her mother telling her the story. Her mother was alive at the time. I have searched for Sigler, Seigler, Seegler, and other spellings of this name and cannot seem to find any people with that last name in the south part of Ga. Can anyone help? Does anyone know who this girl may have been? Where she went? I am a descendant of Manning Powell and I certainly don't condone any of his behaviors, known or unknown. I am told he was something else. I am however searching for relatives who come from that bloodline. I believe Manning Powell's father was a Jonathon S. Thomas and I have documents to prove it. Therefore we would be Thomas' and not Powells. Please contact me if you have any information on the Seiglers.
