John and Permelia Gilmer Seigler/Sigler

John Seigler (Sigler, Zeigler) was born in Germany (according to his youngest son's death certificate) c. 1794 to 1807 - died after May 1882. Family legend says he and a brother came from Germany together as adults, that the brother died at a river fort on the Savannah, and that John left a family in Germany. The ages for John vary greatly in census records. John married a Permelia (A.? W.?) Gilmer, born c. 1817. (Martha Gilmer, born c. 1788 - died August 31, 1874, was living with them in 1870 and must have been Permelia's mother since Valentine Baxter's death certificate gives Gilmer as the surname of his mother Permelia. Martha came from Abbeville County, SC.) Could John have married an Emeline Ward on 11/20/1833? The John Robert branch of the family think so, though they have no proof other than a record of an Edgefield marriage between an Emeline Ward and a John Seigler. There is a wide separation between Frances and John Robert's ages, so John Robert Seigler might have been from an earlier union. A Martha Jane Seigler May (husband Andrew May) lived next door to John Robert Seigler and his family in Hart County, Georgia, according to the 1860 census. A John Seigler neighbor, Reubin Hailey, has a daughter Melinda "Seigler" who seems to be the same Melinda married to a G. W. Seigler (page 200, 1850 Anderson County Census).

Children of John and Permelia Seigler were:
1. John Robert c. 1839 - 7/26/1862; died in Civil War; lived in Franklin County, GA.
2. Fannie (Frances) 12/26/1844 - 3/31/1916 m. John Voluntine Ozmint; lived in Iva, SC, area
3. James (J. M.?) c. 1849
4. Joseph Ebenezer 3/10/1849 - 12/20/1919 m. Sarah (Sallie ) Elizabeth Jones; lived in Starr, SC, area
5. Thomas William 8/7/1851 - 11/5/1893 m. Emma J. Burton; lived in Iva, SC, Area
6. Nancy Ann (Nannie) Foster 1/20/1856 - 4/13/1924 m. William Fant Latham 12/1854; lived in Iva, SC, area.
7. Valintine Baxter ("Tank") 5/12/1858 - 4/2/1919; m. 1st Fanny South; m. 2nd. Ida F. Hardin; moved to Mena, Arkansas in the 1880s.
8. Jeriah c. 1859

Any information about this family--from Seiglers, Gilmers, or anyone--would be greatly appreciated.
