Capt. Ferris TN Inf./Capt. Fariss GA Mil. Cherokee War
Searching for information about Capt. Ferris' Company, Lauderdale's Batt'n, Tennessee Mounted Infantry during the Cherokee War. Cornelius, Joseph, and Washington Holder served in this unit from Nov. 6, 1837 to May 8, 1838. They enrolled at Ross Landing and were mustered out at Baton Rouge. (Cornelius also has a pension file for this service.)
George W. Holden served in Capt. Fariss's Co., Highland Batt'n Georgia Mtd. Vol. Militia during the Cherokee Disturbance and Removal. He enrolled on July 4, 1836 at Lesley Ferry and was mustered out on Oct. 1, 1836 at Camp Scott, GA.
Were Capt. Ferris and Capt. Fariss the same person? Is it possible that George W. Holden was from TN, but served in the Georgia militia? Where can I get more information about the histories of these military units?
