Hello,Judith, our Family Name was traced in around the year 980 in the Genealogical History of the Milesian families of Ireland, researched in the 1880, suggests the the surname of sicks is of Danish origine and that they arrived in Ireland in c.980 we have many surnames, because of the scribes uniformaly recorded our Name in different ways.
our Name was recorded as, SEYS,Seyes,Says,Sisk,Saye,De Sey,sauce,Sexe,Saus,Saxe,Seix. So you see with so many Surname we have all came from the same geografical region witch is from the Deuch region, I have an strong entuition that we as Seys we come from the Vikings way up north in Europe. The first record on the American soil in 1706 when a young boy by the name of Hans SEYS jumped the merchant boat comming from Holland,he was only 17 years old.All the SEYS Name barrer are realated in some way by our origine.
The history of our Name is tremendous and I believe that I only scrached the about 20% of it in 14 years of research,I am working on it as of today and will until I died.
We also migrate to Ireland for about 150 years and some part of the family whent to Wales were we served under Edward the First in 1295 where our name was recorded in the Counties Cork and Kildare in five occurrences. One of our Ancestor by the name of Sir Gregory SEYS was a knight and whent battle of the first Crusade, So you see our Ancestry is very exiting and I just told you a very condensed resume. I need help to finish my reserch and i would like to find other SEYS barrer to help me in missing years that I need to work on to narowing the blancs the I have.
Well I hope we can converse again about the Story of our great name .
Thank you Gerald SEYS.
