John SHACKLETON and Betty SMITH Denholme WRY to Oswego Co., NY

I have just gotten the marriage certificate for John Shackleton and Betty Smith. At first glance, the date looks to be 16 December, 1844, which would be a bit early. Looking closer, however, reveals that the date is more probably 1848, and the marriage took place at the Bradford Parish Church, Bradford West Riding Yorkshire. John's father's name is James and Betty's father's name is John. The couple was residing in Denholme at the time of the marriage.

Taken from the 1851 census - Bradford Library-
45 New Road - Denholme, WRY, England

Shackleton - John H.M (Husband - Married) 22 (age) Power Weaver (Occupation) Halifax (Place of Birth)
Betty W.M 22 Power Weaver Cowling Head
Jonus S.U 5 months Bradford

The 1900 census for Oswego Falls Village, Oswego Co., NY gives John's birth date as August 1851 and Betty's as February 1852. The couple reports that they have been married for 51 years (their 52nd anniversary would not be until December 1900), and Betty was the mother of 5 children, 2 surviving. Their other surviving child, Joseph, is living with them, and reports his birthdate as September 1856. The less detailed information from the 1880 census in Oswego Co., NY would agree with this information.

I also have a birth certificate for Jonas, giving his birthdate as October 5, 1850, in Denholme, Thornton, in the West Riding.

I am still at a major stopping point here, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Take care all,
