Wow Pam! Thanks for all the great information!! My ggrandfather, who married Elizabeth Wise, owned a ship and did his own expeditions to Antartica, so I've always suspected that the family was trying to connect in with the great explorer - pretty common to 'discover' relations when one shares a surname. My grandfather was on the expeditions and became a quite famous ornithologist and, expert in cold weather survival. Perhaps the legend impacted his career!

The legend has made me chuckle for a couple of years now, since I located another branch of the family which did NOT have it...

The family you found is also intriguing and I had not seen them before. Have you ordered British documents? Did you get an issue for a money order in pounds sterling?
