We have two articles from our Shadley News and Genealogy on Lafayette - I'd be happy to copy and mail if you send your postal address (these were done in 1993 and 1994, several computers and programs ago, not sure I can restore an electronic copy).
In a letter dated 9/16/1992, the United States Marshals Service, US Department of Justice states: "Enclosed are copies of documents relating to Deputy US Marshal Lafe Shadley. These documents confirmed DUSM Shadley to all official honor roll exhibits relating to line-of-duty deaths."
I believe Lafe had left the Marshals Service and was Police Chief of the Osage Indian Reservation and called back to temporary duty and deputized for the raid on the Doolin-Daltin bunch in Ingalls where he was killed. The Marshals Service was not aware of this line-of-duty death until the genealogy inquiry.Their research lead to his name being added to the Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, DC.We have a rubbing from that memorial.
Send me your postal addres and I'd be happy to send a copy of our Newsletter #3 4/1993 and #13 5/1997.
