Dear Linda,
I found a Isreal Shadley in Iowa in the 1850 and the 1860 censues. However, he does not show a son Isreal in 1860, perhaps because he was born in Nov. 1859? He does, however, have a son Lafayette. Could it be that Lafayette was Isreal's brother, one born in 1844, the other born 1859? Lafayette moved to Kansas in Nov. 1869 so that's probably why they don't show up in the 1870 censues.
I'm interested in a Isreal Shadley that was married in Montgomery County, Kansas to a Carrie Phllips( born in May 1863 in Tenn.).They were married in March 7, 1881. There first child was born Feb 1882. His name was William A. Shadley. My husband, Dave Caulkins grandmother was Pearl Shadley Caulkins. Her father was Isreal Shadley. Was the elder Isreal Shadley born in Virginia in 1801 or 1802?Information was found, that he had $3000.00 worth of farm land, which was worth a lot of money in 1860. His wife's name was Lydie. Isreal (Bn Nov 1859 age 40 IA) and Carrie Shadley(May 1863 37 TN) were listed in the 1900 cenus with their childrenas follow. William A.(Feb 1882 18 KS), Elizabeth E.(Nell)(Sept 1883 16), Henry (May 1885 15), Myrtle(Jan 1887 13), Clarence(Nov 1888 11), Eva (Apr 1892 8), Della(June 1897 3), Ernest(Aug 1899 1),Charles, and Pearl born 3/7/1903 are not listed.
Could the Isreal Shadley be the brother of Gabriel Shadley?I have a 1850 cenus that list him with Lafayette, and Isreal. Could Susanna who was 48 in 1875 have a two sons named Isreal and Allen ages 20 and 14 of that same year be the nephews of Isreal Shadley married to Carrie Phillps? The susanna I found was listed in the Overturp family in 1895 and 1900 cenusIf you can give me any infomation I would really appricate it.If you can tell me if you know of any Caulkins in that area. my husband grandfather Herman V. Caulkins was born in Kansas. Thanks Rebecca Caulkins
