Hi Donn,

My mother was a Shake, and her branch of the family was in Sangamon County, Illinois in about 1829. Her father was Harvey Edward Shake, his father John Wesley Shake, son of Samuel Shake, son of George Shake. At one time my mother was corresponding with Audrey Shake Cunningham, and they believed our George Shake was a brother of Christopher.

Most unfortunately, Audrey was killed in a car accident in the late 1970's. In her correspondence she said her papers were going to be donated to the library at Ft. Wayne, and copies of her research would be given to Terre Haute and South Bend libraries (she was living in South Bend at the time of her death). I have visited the Terre Haute and the Ft. Wayne libraries and as of about 3 years ago, there was no file for Shake.

All I really know about the family before they had gone to Kentucky was that they had originally come to Jamestown, Virginia. Our family oral history spoke of them going to KY from Culpepper Court House, VA. I have a lot of information on my family back to Samuel, and a little about George. Happy to share if it would be helpful to you.

Anxious to learn more about Christopher, George, and a third brother, William. Can you help?

You can e-mail me at mfilkins@chibardun.net

Look forward to hearing from you
