Hi there - wonder if you can help me.I read your message with interest and hope! There is a bit of a story behind my request, but please allow me to tell it to give clarity as to why I am asking!
I grew up in Pensby in the 1970's and lived at 14 Ashlea Road.At number 10 there was a shakeshaft family and another across the road. These two men were brothers. At number 10 I remember there were quite a few sons (not all at home). Some of them were Glyn, Maurice and Alan. They also had a sister who's name I think was Liz.She visited regularly and brought her two daughters to stay with their shakeshaft grandparents.Their names were Dawn and Carol Rangeley. My sister and I were of similar age to these girls and played with them every time they stayed.I think their grandfather's name was Bill.He had a very well kept veggie garden.
Now for my query!I have in my line a Jane Lawton who married a Mr Shakeshaft (she was my gt gt grandmother's sister). Their son William was born in 1817 I believe in Brimstage. He died in Heswall in 1892.He married Catherine and they had three sons and a daughter. These were James (bn 1843 Barnston), charles (bn 1845 Thingwall) and Thomas (bn 1847 Thingwall).Their daughter was Mary bn in 1853.
I have found Charles and his wife Hannah with many children (at least 12), and think James was married to an Ellen Lloyd and had at least two daughters.I am wondering whether the shakehaft families from Ashlea Road connect in here at all as this means that when I was a kiddie I was playing with my cousins and didn't know it!!
If you could help me out I would be grateful.I look forward to hearing from you.
Regards
