Wow - it is really strange and wonderful to do a Google search and find you family history posted. Let me try to add to it.
My grand father was Harry M. Shalett. My mother, Elizabeth Shalett Morgan, has moved from southern Florida to Vermont to be closer to us - Greg & Toni Morgan. Elizabeth has two grandchildren (Leah and Paul Morgan). She will be 88 in May. Much of the information in this note comes from my Mother, Elizabeth, who is still planning to become web proficient - but not yet.
As I understand Harry's story, he immigrated to the United States from St. Petersburg, Russia. He worked in a delicatessen in New York City, where he met Haddie Hughes. (you have this right). They married moved to New London, CT in 1915 to start Shalett's Cleaning and Dyeing Company. Shalett's still operates in the coastal Connecticut area, but no family are involved.
The key missing part of the story on this web thread is Sidney Shalet - Harry's cousin. He was a reporter for the New York Times. A search on Sidney will show that he co-authored a book with James Roosevelt on the presidency of Franklin. Sidney also wrote extensively on military issues. His is quite a story.
Also, Harry G. Shalett, my uncle, had two children - my cousins. Nancy is mentioned. He also had a son, Jeffery Shalett.
Sidney's brother Edward was the first violinist in the St. Louis symphony.
