Hi Jack, I live in Israel most of my family and relatives i know grew up here long before Israel occupied Palestine, My father knows the family’s origin and the name is self! He always talks about how our family got this name; I haven’t paid much attention to it! But when I saw your post I started to think about it. Anyways to answer your question I need to sit down with the old man to record and document the family’s history so I can compile it for you because it’s in Arabic.
I’ll talk to my father tomorrow and gather as much info as I can to translate it in English for you.
