0. Seeking parents, siblings, family background and emigration details of Philip SHARER or SHERRER or SCHERRER (b in Hesse-Darmstadt Germany ca 1806 and d after 1880 Census in, probably, Election District #4, Montgomery County, MD) and his wife Christina (b ca 1816 in Wurtemberg Germany and d after the 1880 Census in, probably, Election District #4 in Montgomery Co MD). Their children (b ca 1842-1863) include Philip, John, William, Caroline, Frederick, Margaret (Maggie), Annie M., Charles, William, Elizabeth.

1. In the 1840 US Census the family of Philip SHARER is enumerated in Rockville, Montgomery Co MD. Jacob & Wm SHARER are listed in the previous 1830 Census in Frederick County MD.

2. The 1850-1880 US Census for Montgomery Co., MD, indicates that Christina bore Philip some ten children,
although there may have been others who left home before the 1850 Census. Margaret appears in the 1860 and 1870 Census and is no longer at home in 1880, fitting well with her probable marriage to Joseph A. Dove, and in subsequent Censuses this couple is listed simply as “Joe & Maggie Dove.” However a daughter named Annie M. SHARER is listed for the first time in the 1880 Census and her age of 24 suggests she was born ca 1856. Now the Margaret SHARER who married Joe DOVE ca 1878 was born (based on the 1860 and 1870 Census) ca 1853-54. Could this Annie M. SHARER be Margaret or Maggie SHARER? In the 1900 Census Maggie & Joe Dove stated that they had been married for 22 yrs, thus m ca 1878. However, in the 1910 Census they are listed as having been married for 25 yrs, thus married ca 1885. The 3 children of Joe and Maggie (Blanche, Edward, Wm. James) were born in 1880, 1882, 1890, and a fourth child died. So perhaps Annie M. really was Margaret, although GHS has listed the two, Margaret and Annie M. as separate daughters in this compendium.
