OBIT-Arnold Sharpe, 92, born NH, son of Hyman and Fanny Sharpe
Arnold Sharpe, who celebrated his 92nd birthday on April 25, passed away on May 3, 2010 at Heywood Hospital after a brief illness. Born April 25, 1918 in Nashua, NH, Arnold was the son of Fanny and Hyman Sharpe. Arnold attended Nashua High School, class of 1936, and graduated in 1941 from The University of New Hampshire.
He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941, and was promoted to Sergeant in 1942. He served in Europe until 1945.
Arnold and his wife Anita owned and operated Arnold's Fabrics in downtown Gardner for 40 years. He was a past president of B'nai Brith Lodge of Nashua, NH, and a member of Congregation Ohave Sholem in Gardner, where he served as treasurer for 22 years. He was the Purchasing Agent for the City of Gardner from 1974-1976. He was well known around town as a sewing machine repairman who made house calls. An avid tennis player, he also enjoyed singing and playing the piano.
Arnold was one of five brothers: Henry, Bernie, Milton and Myron.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Anita (Saperstein) Sharpe of Gardner; by his brother, Myron, of Venice, FL; and by his children: Michael of Ellington, CT; Gary and his wife, Jeri, of Morristown, NJ; and daughter, Gail Lansky and her husband Aaron Lansky, of Amherst, MA. He leaves three grandchildren: Benjamin Sharpe and Sarah Rayzl and Chava Lansky.
The funeral will take place at 11 AM on Wednesday, May 5 at Congregation Agudat Achim, 268 Washington St., Leominster, MA. Burial will follow at Beth Abraham Cemetery in Nashua, NH. Shiva will take place at the Sharpe home, 76 Robillard St., Gardner on Wednesday, May 5 and Thursday, May 6 at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, Northampton, MA or the National Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, MA.
