Anybody aware of Sharrock(s) in Ireland or Wales
In family legend, my grandfather came over from Ireland, on to somewhere in Wales and then became a subsistence hillfarmer in Derbyshire (on the hills overlooking what's now the Ladybower resevoir).
He never talked about his Irish origins, apparently having lived "wherever the Guarda (police) weren't looking for him"! There are also family rumours that he upset people involved in the troubles - you don't live on a hillside in the middle of nowhere by choice.
I'm interested if there are any Sharrocks in Ireland as my wife's relatives that live in Waterford think that Sharrock is a "good Irish name".
Personally, I'm born and bred in Sheffield, England, along with dozens of uncles, aunts and cousins - the result ofmy grandfather's solution to no central heating (ahem).
Sadly, I don't have much in the way of information - I'm just starting out, Grandad _deliberately_ didn't keep any records (or talk about his past life - even with his own children).
Keep well everyone :-)
