Keith, I believe this is the branch that I am researching, also. According to my ggrandfather's death certificate, his parents were Chester Shasteen and Elizabeth Braden, both from Illinois, and probably Hamilton county. Does this sound right to you? I have also made contact with Ron Shasteen. That is as far back as I have been able to go so far, Ron is going to look thru his records and get back with me. In Civil War database I found Chester's enlistment date as 11/12/1861 with C.Co.56th Inf.Reg. My maiden name was Shasteen, from Indiana, now live in N.Carolina. Looking forward to hearing from you.
