My husband is a descendant of the Leonard SHOWN, SHOUN (SCHAUN) of eastern Tennessee. His great-grandfather was Andrew Baker SHOWN the son of John S. SHOWN (Leonard SHOWN). The name was SCHAUN when the immigrating ancestor came into America (JOhn SCHAUN). The family lived in PA and the name was spelled SHOWN. In looking at the census records for 1880 in eastern Tennessee you will note that the name was spelled SHOWN. As the members of this family moved from the area they kept the spelling SHOWN when it was changed by those left in Tennessee,to SHOUN (rhymes with hound). When Andrew Baker SHOWN moved to Parker County, TX, some of his descendants changed the spelling to SHAWN. When I meet a SHAWN I have always found them to be descended from Andrew Baker SHOWN. There is a SHOWN web site (Ed Miller) and if you are interested I can give you the link.
