Hello, Beth
I'm sorry to say I have no knowledge of a connection between the Sheckles in the Ray family here in central KY in early 1800's and those in your family.I am not directly related to the Sheckles/Shekells.My husband, Joe, is indirectly related through marriage only. Two Ray boys, Joseph and Nicholas (brothers' to my husband's fifth g. grandfather, John Ray) married Sheckles sisters-Mary and Susannah respectively in Maryland and then moved to Washington Co., KY before 1800.They had big families. Some of these girls' brothers also in Hardin County,KY (or at least one) and may have had descendants who may have moved west as yours did.But I don't know.
I might suggest that you put another post on the genforum with a new title or subject line which would indicate time frame your line went to Ohio, with names so that it would catch someones' attention.I'm not an expert by any means, but I try toput something in the subject line that will draw attention to my people, with a place and a date hoping to draw the attention of someone with a common thread. .
I would be glad to share the old family info, with our Ray wive's Sheckles siblings' names, children of John Sheckles of AA Co., MD and his wife, whom some searchers say was Frances Birkhead.I have some documents from Maryland Archives which name all the children including our two Ray girls. Also a document from Hardin County, KY which names the children also.
You can write to me at [email protected]
Sincerely,
Ann Sipes
