I am descended from Arthur Sheffield of Hardin Co., Texas. He was born in 1828 in Georgia and died 23 Jan 1900. He is the son of West Sheffield and Grandson of John Sheffield of Duplin County, North Carolina. I don't know if his or his grandfather's middle name was John Wesley. I have seen that John Sheffield of Moore County, NC did have Wesley as a middle name. Arthur was one of three brothers and two sisters who came to Texas from Early County, Georgia in the 1850s. A fourth brother came in the 1860s.

Your mother's stories are similar to some told by early family members which have turned out to be incorrect. The similarities in names among the various families makes it nearly impossible to straighten out the families.

Please list your ancestry here and someone will help you out.
