Below is an article on the Adam Shuffield Family of St. Clair Co., AL.It starts at the bottom of this page with the source shown at the end. Searching for the family of Louis Pinkney Sheffield.
On the 1860 census of Cass Co TX.L.P. Sheffield is age 30 which could make him a son of Wesley, son of Adam, who m: in AL in 1825, or maybe the son of Nathan. The library in St. Clair Co. (Asheville, AL) may have more information on the family. I am not sure L.P. was born in 1821 as per his tombstone. He married in TX in 1855, and I think this is a second marriage based on the 1860 census.

He was the son of John and Hannah Melton Sheffield, of Sheffield Township, Moore Co NC. An old
DAR application says that John Sheffield was b. 1727 in Pa. I have found no other proof that his birth
place was in Pa. He was living in North Carolina 1750-1760, and d. in 1796 in Moore Co NC where
his will is on record. His wife, Hannah Melton, d. at the age of 102. She could be the female 80-90 in
this census. Hannah was the daughter of Robert and Mary Farrar Melton, were descendants of an early
Virginia family. Adam Sheffield was in the group from Moore Co NC who moved to Franklin Co Ga.
