Wrote Suicide Letter in Presence of Mother
Oxford, Pa., March 9, -- After writing a note explaining his reason for taking his own life, while his mother and sister looked on, unaware of the nature of the letter, Guy Shellender, 21 years old, went to his room and swallowed a quantity of carbolic acid. He was found in a dying condition this morning and succumbed to the effects of the poison in spite of efforts on the part of several physicians.
The young man had been despondent for some time and was laboring under the belief that he had brought disgrace upon is family. Eleven weeks ago his father was brought home dead from a fall at Kennett Square. On Sunday he had a slight difference with a young lady to whom he had been paying attention.
The mother is prostrated by the shock and is in a serious condition.
