The following obit appeared in "The Galveston Daily News" Galveston, TX, Oct.20, 1869, Pg.1, Col. 2. Daily Vol. No. 38.
At Winnsboro, La., on the 30th ult., Lieut. Vance, of the United States army, killed Marshall Shelton. According to the accounts published, it was an unprovoked murder. Shelton was riding when Vance shot him down; his words, as he was shot were, "don't shot me; I've done nothing to you." Vance was arrested, and the grand jury have found a true bill against him for murder.
This is not my Shelton line and I have no other information on the men.
