C. RICHARD ("Dick") SHERER died Wednesday, September 5, 2001. Born November 2, 1926, in Lincoln, Nebraska, Dick earned a B.A. from Texas Christian University in 1943, a M.A. from Southern Methodist University in 1950, and was a doctoral candidate at the University of California. During the Second World War, he was a RM3/c with the United States Coast Guard and served in both the European and Pacific Theaters and was a 2nd Lt., Cav. with the 49th Armored Division of the Texas National Guard. He was also a 32nd degree Mason. He will be remembered as having been an avid hunter, businessman and inventor. Most importantly, he was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 43 1/2 years, Barbara Ann Sherer; his sons: Randy Sherer and his wife Janelle, Trace Shere and Marvin Markman, his daughter, Kimberly Cutchall and her husband Michael; his grandchildren Emily and Stuart Aron, Trevor and Preston Sherer and Kate and Grant Markman. He also had a special place in his heart for his four-legged family members. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions, if desired, in his memory may be sent to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 297153, Houston, Texas 77297 or the Houston Humane Society, P.O. Box 450528, Houston, Texas 77245.
