I just found out that my ggg grandmother was Sarah Sherer of York, South Carolina. Her line goes this way:
Mathew Shearer, born about 1693 possibly in Ireland
Hugh I. Shearer, born after 1704 in Armagh, Ulster, Ireland
William Shearer, born abt.1734 in Ireland; died in York.S.C.
Thomas Shearer, born abt. 1766, York, S.C. married
Ann Robinson in York S.C.
Children of Thomas Shearer and Ann Robinson
Margaret, William, Abigail, Richard, Tirzah,
Archibald, and Sarah. (Sarah is my line)
About this time, the spelling of the name was changed to Sherer.
My Sarah Sherer married George P. Smith. In the 1830 and 1840 censuses, they were in York, S.C. In the 1850 census they were In Itawamba County, Mississippi. About 1857, George P. Smith and Sarah Sherer Smith moved their family to Drew County, Arkansas where Sarah is found in the 1860 census of her son, Thomas Richard Smith.
I would love to hear from researchers from this Sherer (Shearer) line. I do not have much information to share, but as time goes along, I hope to collect more. Thanks. Peggy Carey email@example.com
