I have been trying to find the parents of Isham Sherfield and Nancy Alatha Laxton. So far no luck for sure.
I do not have the year of his birth, but assume it was before 1820 when his wife Alatha was born.
He was born in North Carolina, married before 1837 in Tennessee, Probably near Nashville, where his eldest child Amy Alatha Sherfield Lemley(a Church of Christ minister)was born.
He is known to be in Arkansas in 1847 when son Thomas Smith Sherfield was born.. The family appears to move to Weatherford, Parker County Texas about 1863.
Other family members are known to live also in Erath and Eastland County, Texas.
Smith Sherfield moved to Chickasaw Indian Territory after the 1880 census.
If you have any information at all on Ephraim or James Sherfield I would love to have it.
By the way Isham's youngest daughter Paulina b 1862 married my grandfather Stephen Nolen in 1888 in Eastland Texas.
