I was in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Hickman County, Ky this last weekend. This is the cemetery that is on the Oakton/Columbus Road. While there I noticed the stone of George D. Sherfield, a veteran of WW I , Army Pvt. Co. E 61 infantry, who was b. May 20, 1898 and died Aug. 31, 1959. I was trying to determine whether he was a descendant of Daniel Sherfield and Catherine Long Sherfield of Calloway Co., Ky. I did some research and found that the person who requested his grave marker was Mrs. Alice Sherfield of Bardwell, Ky. I am speculating that she was his wife perhaps. I also think his middle name might be Dewey. A quick search on Ancestry shows him to be the son of Alex or Alec Sherfield b. 1854, does anyone know who Alex's parents were?
