Mark Sheridan Mark Sheridan, 97, died peacefully on September 2, 2012. He was born in Chicago on August 23, 1915. For 66 years Mark was the loving husband of the late Joeen Kirby Sheridan, whom he missed every day since her death in 2007. He is survived by their four children: Mark Sheridan, Jr., and his wife Anita of Nashville, Tennessee; Suzanne Sheridan Bocchini and her husband Michael of Rocky Hill, Connecticut; William Sheridan and his wife Carolynn of Evanston, Illinois; and Mary Sheridan Kody and her husband Joseph of Arlington Heights, Illinois. Mark is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Lisa, Mark III, Tina, Charlie, Colleen, Kathleen, Kate, Michael, Liz, Carolynn, Patrick, and Joey; 20 great-grandchildren; Joeen's brother, William Kirby; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Eleanor "Bobbi" Barg and Margie Alexander. Mark was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy in the Pacific on the aircraft carrier Shangri-La, where he learned his skill as an electrician, eventually retiring as the Chief of Fire Alarm and Police Communications for the City of Chicago. As a faithful fan of the White Sox, he was pleased to live long enough to see the 2005 World Series; and he enjoyed celebrating his 95th birthday at the ballpark, where his dinner included multiple desserts and the Jumbotron scoreboard saluted his special day. "We will miss his quiet strength and integrity, Manhattans with green olives, sweet tooth, sly humor, and twinkling blue eyes; but we are grateful to have had so many years to learn from his example and enjoy his company. We thank the attentive staff of The Hearthstone at Luther Village, who made his last 18 months so comfortable, and particularly his devoted caregiver, Mary Jane Mallari." Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at Matz Funeral Home, 410 E. Rand Road, Mount Prospect, proceeding to St. Alphonsus Church, for a 10 a.m. Mass. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to fight the disease that took his wife's life through the Alzheimer's Association Greater Illinois Chapter, 8430 W. Bryn Mawr, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60631. For information, 847-394-2336.
