Four years on and I now have further information. I remember my school friend, Celia, leaving Cornwall, England, for Washington in 1965. The following year she returned to England and gave birth to a son. By a strange coincidence her son is now my son-in-law. His mother never told him about the U.S. side of his family, and she is now not able to do so, because of illness. He only knows his father's name is Philip Sheridan and that Philip's father was a judge. Just recently he found out a bit of further information - it was Seattle, Washington, his mother visited, not Washington D.C. Has anyone any knowledge of a judge Sheridan in or around Seattle? He should have been born in the early decades of the twentieth century.
