I am about a week away from publishing a Sherrod Genealogy report on my web site. There is a lot of information about the Sherrod family available, online, however. Most Sherrods trace from George Shearer who immigrated to Va from England in the 1600s.It became the family custom to name the oldest son John in each generation, a tradition which has continued into the early part of this century. My branch of the Sherrod family lives in North Alabama.I had a great great uncle John Sherrod who was called black John to distinguish him from his first cousin "white John" Sherrod.I am thinking your John may have lived in Northampton County.Second sons of this line were usually Robert. My great great grandfather was a younger son, which explains the abscence of any large inheritence from the Sherrod Side
