Firstly, this is possible thanks to the work of Dorothy Traver 1982
Where to start...a prepared genealogy of the Sherow family of Dutchess county....according to the genealogy...it begins with a George Sherer and his French Huguenot wife arriving in America in the middle to early 1700's.
He has two sons George Sherer and Benjamin Sherow (Sherer) (the Elder, born in NY) 1767-1865
Only Benjamin's descendants are listed, however of his 8 children, half decide at one point to use the Sherer name again and switch back. To make matters worse, their names (3 Georges of course!) are seemingly the same as what appears to be the descendants of George Sherer (the Younger) above.
I've pretty solidly tracked Benjamin's descendants despite the name changes, but I've been unable to locate these two George Sherer's of the 1700's and their descendants... I'd like to do that if for any other reason than to help determine who is who between the Sherow-Sherers and what I believe to be the Sherer-Sherrers. I did find one instance in one census in which the name was spelled Sherrow.
So, anyone have a George Sherer (the Elder) arriving from Scotland, maybe even with one child (George Sherer the Younger)?
Also, if you're looking for any of the same I'll share what I have... There are 450 individuals and around 160 families...
