Darn I just typed for three hours for you and lost it all. I just am too burned out to start over, so will just give you a summary. We are from the same family, but The Shields side is where I have information from and no Native American blood they were Irish Americans. However, maybe on the Downy side of the family, I don't have much information on this family.
The information I have is a family from Clarke County IA, with the original generations buried at Hopeville Cemetery.
Here is the quick summary of your line:
John Henry Shields Sr is the first known relation on this side of the family, then John Henry Shields, then Joseph Shields, then Louise Shields, who married John Downy, and fathered these children Earl, Bert, James Carlton, and Raymon Wayne Downey. That would be your line on the Shield's side of the family.
I have all the information in a huge volume of 8x10 sheets of paper almost 2" deep. I inherited these pages of information, The Shields Family Remembrance, from my mother a few months back. They were my Great Grandmother's, my Grandmother's copies of this book as I have almost three entire collections, one is not in the binder and quite of bit of water damage from years of storage. However I am lucky I have several copies, because those that are water damaged are not the only copies of that page. There are some pictures in the book which are really nicely done. Ercell Shields made this compilation of family history in the 50's and 60's is my guess, but I am not sure, it could've stared in the 40's and I don't think there is much updating into the 70's if any.
My Great Grandmother sent pictures in for the publication and she and her daugther (my grandmother) used to attend a Shield's Family, Yearly gathering.I think my mother told me this gathering was in CO, but I won't be quoted on wher it was held.
I could make copies, but appears to be at least 100 pages and then there would be shipping. I am just guessing on number of pages, because no numbers on the pages. It is thick!!!!!!
You will have to let me know if you want to send money for copies. I am sorry I don't work anymore, so don't have access to work copy machine. I would have to take to copy store.
Where do you live?I live in North Platte, NE and travel to Denver, CO everyfew months and every other week to Kearney, NE, but that it is for normal travel route for me on a regular basis. Let me know how I can help more.
