Since posting the message, I have tracked down much of this line. John Schillinger immigrated from Germany to South Carolina, where he married Louisa Caroline Lusk in the 1830s. They then moved to Water Vally, MS, with several children, sons John, James, and Theodore, and daughter Esther, then Louisa (my gggreat grandmother) and Winifred were born in Water Valley. John and Theodore died during the War, while James never seems to have married or have had children. Esther, who had married Eli Burney and moved to Plant City, FL, ended up raising Louisa's grandchildren, John and Laurence Garland, after they were orphaned around 1914. Esther herself used the original Schillinger spelling, but James seems to have dropped the "c," and his listed as "Shillinger" on his gravestone in Plant City.
