I haven't looked at John G. Schillinger's German background, nor whether he had a brother that also came to the US. If your line has a Carolina link at all, it could be the same family, since so few Germans came to that area. There also seem to have been Shillingers in Arkansas at the time, maybe part of the same pattern. In any case, my Schillingers were always proud of the German link. All JG's children supposedly spoke German well, and many a schoolchild in Plant City, FL, where Esther Burney taught for more than 40 years, remembered her talking of her German background.
