I am looking for the ancestors of John Lewis Shimfessel who was born in Thuringia (Germany). He married Mary Catharine Mayer. He came to America aboard the ship, Boston, under command of Master Matthew Carr);left Rotterdam, Holland the summer of 1764 and after making a stop at Cowes, England, he arrived in Philadelphia, Pa on 10 Nov 1764. He most likely accompanied by his wife Mary Catharine Mayer and son Andrew and daughter Catharine. They settle in area of Reading PA (Penn Dutch). The 1780 Tax Records of Cavernaion Township, in Berks Co. PA ( near Reading)showed him to own a farm of 80 acres. The 1784 records had him living on this same farm and was still living in the area during the 1800 census. All of their children were christened and married in the Catholic Church in Bally and Reading, PA. He probably died in year 1803 and his wife most likely proceeded him in death in that she was not mentioned in his will. Will was signed 28 Mar 1803. mentions children, Andr4w, Catharine, Elizabeth and Mary Ann, also mentions Catharine Eckenoth who may be the grandaughter and witnesses, Andares ARenss and John Friedrich, Will probated in Reading, Berks Co. PA.

He also went by Louis and Ludwig. There are various versions of the Shimfessel name such as Schimfessel.

Would like to correspond with family in Germany or the U.S.
