Hi Darwin - my husband's Hopkins family from Wales settled originally in MD. Descendants later moved to VA, Illinois, Kansas and Texas.
Hopkins Point was settled by Thomas and Robert Hopkins in 1649. On August 25, 1659, Richard Hopkins's eldest son Robert Hopkins was granted by Lord Baltimore 800 acres of land in that part of Maryland later known as Talbot County. The "manour" was given the name of "Hopkins Point" (Side Lights of Maryland History). This family and their descendent lived in and near this ''manor" for over a hundred and fifty years. (Some Hopkins wills state the party to whom land on Hopkins Point was willed can never be sold except to another Hopkins).
In 1652 there were living in Northumberland County Virginia, Richard Hopkins, Thomas Hopkins, and William Hopkins. It is believed that the last two named were likely brothers of Richard. Thomas Hopkins and William Hopkins were living in Northumberland County, Virginia before Richard Hopkins went to Northumberland County, perhaps to join Thomas Hopkins.
In 1654, Virginia by patent granted land in Northumberland County Virginina, to ''Thomas Hopkins" Honorable Gentleman. In 1655 Thomas Hopkins was a justice in Northumberland County Virginia.
Does this Hopkins family connect with your?
