Then do you think that the book Shipleys of Maryland, 2002, has combined the records of the Benjamin who left the will in Washington Co., TN, pr. Feb. 1803, and Benjamin who married Catharine "Kitty" WELLS? The will of Benjamin, pr. 1803, named wife Elizabeth, sons Nathan & James, & said he had already given to other children. The two named sons were
1. Nathan (ca. 1765 - 1 Apr. 1840) m. Elizabeth HALE.
2. James (ca. 1770 - bef. Apr. 1834) had Nathan, Benjamin (12 Mar. 1800 - 27 July 1870), & Adam (ca. 1802 - July 1840).
We do have the Sullivan Co., TN, census of 1850, showing a Benjamin SHIPLEY, 64, b. MD; Catharine, 66, VA; & family. However, that Catharine was apparently the one in 1860, aged 72, with Benj. & Edna/Edney, so we cannot rely too much of exact birth years. Do you think that Catharine, 66 in 1850 & 72 in 1860, was Catharine WELLS?
