Denise,
Do you have access to the 1860 Census for TN? There are 2 possibilities for your John H. One being listed as John H., born 1854 in TN and the son of Benjamin Shipley in Sullivan Co., TN. The other being listed as John H., born about 1854 in TN and the son of F.E. Shipley in Hardin Co., TN. The second Shipley is transcribed as Shirley, but a correction has been submitted for it to have been Shipley. That researcher had also listed the F.E. as being F. Edward. If you need more information from the census, just let me know.
