Not sure! My Michigan Shippys are like this:

1 Joseph Shippy (b.1780 RI)
+Elenor Seaton
2 Joseph Shippy (b.1810/11 NY)
+ Delia A. (m. 1831 Jefferson Co, NY)
3 Samantha A. Shippy (b.1833 NY)
+John Dodge Thompson (m. 1857 MI)
and then my family in Michigan...

Joseph Shippy of New York State homesteaded on the Muskegon River in Newaygo Co, Michigan sometime between 1833 and 1857. The Shippys owned a owned and operated a lumber mill there which produced shakes (roofing material). Samantha was the eldest of 14 children of Joseph Shippy, and is buried in Kalkaska Co, Michigan. She had many brothers.

Joseph did have a cousin John Washington Shippee, son of Robert and Anna Shippee of Rhode Island, m. 1822. I don't know much about them.

Eric in Seattle
