Shirah; John Martin, Conrad, Charles
I'vebeen trying to move forward to Charles and Lourana Shirah of Richland County, SC from John Martin Shirer and/or Conrad Shirer (Scheurer), probably our family. That's backward but doing it the other way for over 20 years got me nowhere. I have realized the following:
Conrad (according to Auswander), was the son of Martin Shirer (Scheurer) of Gonningen, Baden-Wurttemburg, Germany. His children wereJohann Michael (b 1736), Johann Cunrad (b.1743), and Matthaeus (b.1748). Matthaeus was in SC in 1752. There is too much age difference between Conrad and Jacob for him to be Jacob's father (I think), and a lot of age difference between Jacob (d.1826) andCharles (1810-1849) for Jacob to be Charles' father. I think Charles would be more likely to be the son of the John or Nicholas named in Jacob's property administration. The John Martin Shirer (a.k.a. Schaurer) who ran the ferry on the Broad or Saluda River could be the son of Conrad (aka Cunrad), who lived NEAR but not in Saxe Gotha. Conrad previously lived on Crims Creek. He and John Martin Shirah (who ran a ferry in Dutch Fork area) lived in Newberry and Lexington counties. Anyone have info on any of these?
