I found your message re. the Shirkie's. I am curious ... my mother's last name is Shirkie. Her grandfather came from Scotland, as did many of his relatives. They settled in Indiana in a town that eventually was named Shirkieville (a coal mining town).

I have made a few attempts to find their origins in (Ayshire and Ayrshire) Scotland, but the name Shirkie doesn't pop up.

You mention the clan Gunn as a possible origin. Do you have any information about this that you can share? I have a genealogist in Glasgow who thinks the origina of Shirkie may be Shurkey.

Thanks much ... Mike
