Sounds like JL Bailey was able to give you the information on this family. I am also working on the Shirkie/Shirkey line and would appreciate if you could send me the information you received from him. I will see if I can add to it. Quite a lot of information has been amassed on this family as Margaret Shirkie who Married Matthew Sinclair joined the Mormon Church and emigrated to the US. (I am a relation of Matthew Sinclair through his sister Elizabeth)Much of the information was based on family knowledge with some research in Scottish records. Of course, since the data was compiled before there was access to Scottish records on the internet it is very patchy and incomplete in places. I have tried to fill in the gaps mostly through the website scotlandspeople.gov.uk (civil, census, probate and old parochial registers.
I have one more child for Matthew Shirkie and Elizabeth Craig Agnew. Christina born 29 Apr 1891 at Auchinleck. There are also possibilities as follows:
Edward Shirkie Auchinleck 1886
Margaret Barr Shirkie Irvine 1885
Stewart Shirkie Auchinleck 1888
These were found in the index under the name SHIRKIE which seems to be the preferred format for this family. Other siblings of Matthew were more likely to use Shirkey. Unfortunately there are many variations.
In time when I get around to working specifically on this family I will check out the possibilities and also other name variation possibilities.
I am an avid researcher but unfortunately very slow in the compilation department. It is always something that I will get around to eventually. Everytime I go to compile I find new searches to distract me. I will do my best to get the information onto a gedcom format file so I can send it to you.
I would also be interested in further information on the children of Matthew Shirkie and Elizabeth Agnew - I was aware of their daughter Jane but did not have her birthdate or marriage details. Do you have any details of her siblings marriages and deaths? That information would also be of interest to me.
Sorry to be so long winded, hope to hear from you.
