Check out the Chartier GenForum especially the thread with message number 71. I took the liberty of copying Vernon L. Chartier's message so you could see the relavance:

"The majority of the Chartiers in Michigan are descended from Francois and Marie-Amable (Raymond-dit-Toulouse) Chartier. Francois came to Detroit in the 1780's. Many Chartiers from this family became known as Sharkey, Shorkey, Shirky, Chorkey, Chortie which can be found in many descendants. This family has been documented in "Dennison's Early French Families of Detroit" which consists of 25 volumes and can be found in the Burton Hist. Collection at the Detroit Public Library. They have also been documented in "The Chartier-Shirky Families of St. Clair Co., Mich. which was published in the DSGR Mag. Fall 1961, Vol. XXV, No. 1, pgs 3-9. They have been further documented in Vol. II of the "The Chartier Families in North America - The Descendants of Guillaume Chartier."
Other Chartier families, primarily descedants of Michel Chartier have settled in Michigan, but they aren't as numerous.

Gilbert and Laura (Rayome) Chartier can not be found in any of this information at this time. Where were they married, and where did they live?"

You may want to email Mr. Chartier directly.
