Henry & Elizabeth SHOBER - Hesse, Germany, ca. 1840s

My g.g.grandfather was Henry (Heinrich?) S. SHOBER who was, according to Lake County, Illinois census records of 1850-1880, b. in Hesse-Darmstadt in about 1810-1812. His wife was named "Elizabeth ..." (maiden name unknown) who was b. in Hesse-Kassel in about 1825. Henry Shober's occupation was listed as "Wagon Maker", and later as "Farmer".

Unfortunately we have no idea what their ancestral villages or districts may have been but we assume they were most likely married in Germany before they emigrated, sometime before 1850. We have found no ship's manifest or passenger records of this.

They had eight (8) children we know of from census records; these children were all born in the U.S. (Lake County, Illinois): George, John, Frank (my g.grandfather), William, Lewis, Lucy, Sophia, and Fred. Frank Shober later married Mary (Marie) Babst who was born in Illinois in 1856.

Is anyone researching this SHOBER family? Any information, particularly about their origins in Hesse, Germany, would be very much appreciated!
