Renee,
It seems my line starts with a Michael Schoch "presumably, a Bavarian. He arrived in Philadelphia September 9, 1749 and settled in Northern Liberties until his death exactly seventy years later. He came on the British Ship "Speedwell" on which he had embarked at Rotterdam. The passengers were all from Alsace, Hanau, and Witemburg.... "
"The first son of Michael was named Jacob Frederick {b.1758} and he lived in Northern Liberties but is supposed to have dropped the "Frederick". He appears in the 1790 census as being married with one son and one daughter. In the will of Michael, who died in 1819, Jacob appeared to be living. The line from Jacob Frederick has not been found."
However, later in my "Schoch Book" there is this entry:
"Jacob Frederick Schoch
born: December 4, 1758 Northern Liberties
Bapt: December 17, 1758 Old St. Michael's at 5th and Appletree Alley, Phila., Pa.
His baptism was sponsored by Frederick Weiss and Christina Stoessin, both single persons. He was probably named for Jacob Stoess, Uncle. and Frederick Weiss.
While nothing has been found of a branch from Jacob Frederick the notes below may concern him.
December 7, 1785 at St. Michael's Zion, Philadelphia. Jacob Schoch married Margarita Sayler (sic:Seiler?)
February 13.1791 at First Reformed Church of Philadelphia. Jacob and Margaretha Schoch sponsored Lydia Seiler daughter of Mathes and Ann Seiler (Saylor?)."
Hope this is helpful to you.
Sara
