After inquiring of a Shockey cousin from my Father's generation as well as with one of my Father's sisters, I am fairly certain in saying that John Allen Shockey (my g-g gf) was the son of Elias Shockey. As you've previously indicated, Elias was the son of Allen Shockey and Matilda Birchfield. So please disregard my earlier post that speculated that John Allen was a son of Allen Shockey.

In addition, no one seems to be able to go further back than Allen Shockey in tracing this line of Shockeys. My Father's cousin thinks he remembers Allen Shockey possibly being an illegitimate child. If true, such a fact might explain why others are unable to trace back prior to Allen Shockey. I am unable to locate where on the Web I saw this post, but I did run across a post late one night that alluded to an Allen Shockey being the son of a Susannah Shockey. If we start doing a little research into Susannah Shockey, we might find that she was the unwed mother of Allen Shockey. I don't know this for a fact, but I feel it is worth looking into. If we can verify that Allen was the son of Susannah, I believe we can trace Susannah back a couple of generations to the arrival of Shockeys from Germany.

Let me know what you think.
