Shockey as a first name

My gggrandfather came to America as Andrew Myers from Bavaria, don't know the year but he had to be here by 1850 ( according to the birth of a daughter). Somewhere along the line all his children began using the spelling of Mier as a last name. I have Andrew in the 1860 & 1870 census as still being Andrew Myers. When his daughter died in 1933 it is stated in her obit that she is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Shockey Mier. So somewhere along the line he started using the different spelling also. I am really curious as to how he got Shockey as a first name or nickname, maybe someone can help me with this. Thanks so much for any help!! Shirley
