I do not have info on the LA Shomo family, but you may be able to discern some of it from Peggy Shomo Joyner's book.It is not available as it was published 20 years ago and she has no more copies.I talked with her today. However, check the genealogy room in you local library and they may have a copy or be able to locate one.
The American Shomo name is a derivation of the Savoy (France) name of Chaumontet.Joseph Chaumontet emigrated to America in the 1700s and his family settled in Berks Co., PA.Portions traveled from there and I am descended from a group that ended up in New Market, Virginia.Members of this family served in the the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.I have very little actual data until I can access a copy of Peggy's book.I do have my own lineage, but after PA, it is all in VA.Good Luck.
